Vidame is the head of the most influential Maraisie family living in Noux-Veil Tontierre. Following in the footsteps of his father–a quick-witted, manipulative man who single-handedly opened up trade negotiations between Marais and Noux-Veil Tontierre–Vidame has continued his father’s legacy and solidified their presence in all things Veilerrian commerce. The spices, drugs, and herbs that come from Marais are highly prized among Veilerrians.
Vidame is much more willing to employ underhanded techniques than his father was: he’s heavily involved in the black market, including the trafficking of vignoire (a highly addictive substance) and prostitution rings. Despite Vidame’s shady dealings, he’s extremely scrupulous regarding the treatment of his employees. He surrounds himself with a handful of men and women he has trained as courtesans, forgers, and thieves in order to get a leg up on the competition: other Veilerrian Houses.
Vidame and Finch have a messy and somewhat contentious history. He seeks out Finch occasionally to steal items that he simply doesn’t trust anyone else to.
